150 people attend talk on Islam as an initiative to aid dialogue

On Monday 22nd July, the Cornerstone at St David’s played host to Fr. Elias Mallon S.A. who addressed some 150 people over two talks on the topic “Islam – What Catholics Need To know”

Fr Elias is a member of the Franciscans of the Atonement. This group of Franciscans was founded by Fr. Paul Watson, an American Anglican Friar and dedicated to the Ecumenical Movement. Eventually the whole community was received into the Catholic Church.

They have developed their ministry throughout the world. Fr. Elias, an expert in Islam, has worked at the United Nations in the field of Interfaith dialogue. He is the author of a book entitled “What Catholics should know about Islam”.

The talks were attended by a number of the local Muslim community and looked at the common points for discussion in future dialogue between the Catholic and Muslim communities. Each session was followed by a lively question and answer session. A general positive feedback was given by those who attended.
