Christmas in Prisons

Christmas is one of the most difficult times of the year in prisons. Whatever the reasons for imprisonment, separation from family and friends at this time is most poignant and painful for prisoners – and their families. For the staff too this can be difficult as they sacrifice time with their families to provide security within our prisons.  The presence of the Catholic chaplain and the Bishop at Christmas brings some of the joy of the birth of Christ to the both prisoners and staff alike and is very much appreciated.

This Christmas, Archbishop George will continue the tradition of visiting prisons within the Diocese.  He will will celebrate Mass in the three prisons situated in the Diocese this Christmas.  The Masses are as follows:

Parc Prison:              10.30 on Christmas Eve

Cardiff Prison:             9.00 on Christmas Day

Usk Prison:                1030  on New Year’s Day

Please remember prisoners, their families and the staff of our prisons at Christmas.  Pray for them, that the joy of the birth of the Christ child may enter their hearts and transform the lives of all concerned.
