The Light is ON for YOU this Lent

This Lent the Archdiocese of Cardiff will be holding an initiative called “The Light is ON for You”.  Initially conceived by the American Catholic Bishops’ Conference, ‘The Light is ON for You’ encourages people to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) by making the Sacrament more available during Lent.

Within the Diocese, churches are signing up to the initiative with priests making themselves available on a specific evening each week during Lent to administer the Sacrament.  Maybe you or someone you know has been away from the Church, or not frequented the Sacrament recently, now is the time to come in and let the Light of Christ enflame your heart; you will be especially welcome.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is the Sacrament of God’s deep, loving and absolute mercy to us when we turn to him and present our shortfalls, our failings.  The Church is often accused of being too rigourist and unrelenting, but what the presents to us is the ideal.  Not one of us is perfect and we all need the Sacrament of Reconciliation in this life to strengthen and renew us and to hear the words ‘you are forgiven, it is forgotten, you are ALIVE’.  The Light of Christ is waiting to enliven your heart once again.

Lent is the season where we prepare ourselves through self-reflection, prayer and penance, to welcome the Light of the Risen and glorified Christ at Easter.  The Risen Jesus represents humanity its completeness and perfection.  He is the ideal.  Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (5th March) and concludes with the start of the Easter Triduum on Holy Thursday (17th April).  The light will shine in a church near you and you are invited to step in and be embraced by God.

More details on the practicalities of “The Light is on for You” in the Archdiocese of Cardiff will be made available in the coming days.  Check back on the “The Light is on for You” section of the diocesan website for more information.
