On Thursday March 20th, Archbishop George travelled to London and represented Cardinal Vincent Nichols at the Annual Plater Awards hosted at the Cardinal Hume Centre in Westminster. The Plater Awards are awarded by Plater College to various charities working in the field of social outreach. Amongst this year’s charities, many were working with the homeless. One was working with prisoners, teaching them how to read, encouraging them to read with their children, building relationships with their families. Also represented was the LIFE charity, founded by Jack and Nuala Scarisbrick, which was one of the award winners.
Previous recipients of these awards include the Ten Ten theatre company which takes plays with moral and religious themes into schools and youth centres.
The Charles Plater Trust is the successor to Plater College which was established in Oxford to further the social teaching of the Catholic Church.
