After what has been a wait of approximately 1,000 days since the Rt Rev. Thomas McMahon resigned due to age, the Diocese of Brentwood has just been appointed a new bishop.
This morning the Holy Father, Pope Francis, named Fr Alan Williams SM the Bishop-Elect of Brentwood. He will be the Seventh Bishop of Brentwood. The Bishop-Elect is currently the director of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. His episcopal ordination and installation will take place at Noon on Tuesday July 1st at Brentwood Cathedral.
Speaking of his appointment the Bishop-Elect said:
“I am both surprised and humbled to have been appointed by Pope Francis as the new Bishop of Brentwood. There is indeed a God of surprises and in my life as a priest and religious I have learned to trust ever more in the grace of God for whatever task has been assigned to me.”
The bishop, priests and people of the Diocese of Cardiff wish the Bishop-Elect well on this part of his ministry and assure the people of the Diocese of Brentwood of our continued prayers.
